ONLY VANS

A LOVE LETTER TO CARAVANS

I’ve visited this caravan park for over 25 years. It sits above a “sweeping five mile beach” and, despite it being one of the most popular coastal spots in Wales, it regularly features on lists of the best ‘secret’ beaches in the UK.

At a glance, the caravans are uniform. Containers with holes punched in them for windows. There’s a caravan vernacular (Caravernacular, if you like) but with subtle variations. The models are named after famous places that aren’t really synonymous with caravans: the Bordeaux, the Chamonix, the Aspen and the Henley.

Looking more closely, the signs of life start to reveal themselves. The details that hint at what these corrugated metal sheds contain.

Come rain or shine they stoically face the sea, Homes from home.
